Skybox for AI assistants

Skybox is a mail, calendar and contacts app that keeps your messages where they are: at your mail provider. The Skybox MCP server lets an AI assistant work with those accounts on your behalf. You stay in control of which accounts it sees and can switch the access off at any time.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting assistants such as Claude to outside tools. Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and a growing number of other clients speak it.

What you get

With Skybox connected, you can ask your assistant to:

  • find the message from your accountant last March and summarise the attachment;
  • draft a reply in your tone and open it in a compose window for you to review and send;
  • file the newsletters of the week into a folder, or mark a batch of messages as read;
  • check your calendar for Thursday and add the meeting that was just proposed;
  • look up a contact's phone number, or add the new one from a signature.

The full list is on What the assistant can do.

How the connection works

  1. You add Skybox as a connector in your assistant. The connector's address is https://api.skyboxmail.de/mcp. On a self-hosted Skybox Enterprise instance it is your instance's address followed by /mcp.
  2. The assistant opens a browser window where you sign in to Skybox and see what the app is asking for. You pick the accounts it may reach, give the connection a name if you like, and press Allow.
  3. From then on the assistant calls Skybox with a token that belongs to that one connection. Your Skybox password, and the passwords of your mail accounts, are never shown to it.

Step-by-step instructions for Claude are on Connect Claude.

Who can use it

Connecting an AI assistant is part of Skybox Pro. On the Free plan the authorization screen explains this and sends you back to the assistant without connecting anything. Skybox Enterprise instances have no plans; every user there can connect an assistant.

Where you control it

  • Settings → Connected Apps in Skybox lists every assistant you have authorized, with its permissions and the accounts it may reach. Account Access changes the selection, Revoke ends the connection.
  • Settings → API Keys is the other way in, for clients that cannot sign in through a browser. See Other clients and API keys.

What an assistant can read, what Skybox stores about the connection, and what happens on revoke: Permissions, data and privacy.
